Week1A: My Blog Theme
(EDIT: I realized I may have thought of the wrong type of "theme" when I initially wrote this. I've fixed some of my post to help convey my visual theme choice. Oops!)
Hey there!
My name's Jon. I'm 27 years old and have had many interests over the years. My interests span many subjects but my main topics include art, gaming, music, movies, and many other extensions of creativity. I'm a quiet guy, but my mind is always active. I was born and raised around water so I find the ambience and colors calming. This is also my first time doing any sort of blog post, which gives me a brief amount of anxiety but is also pretty exciting! I'd like to write a few words about my passions and decide on a theme by the end and why I chose it. Sound good? Great!
My interest in art has always been rooted in doodling, painting, and drawing anything that interested me. Starting with animals in grade school (animals were BIG at that time), moving into video game characters into junior and high school (that bright pink puffball named "Kirby" especially), and finally evolving into learning/adapting to different art styles from all the media I've watched and played. I've used this love of art in my adult life to financial benefit by starting online digital art commissions with some success by designing graphics, emotes, and logos for live streamers. I want to expand on that journey and further push it into a real business.
My earliest gaming memory is of my oldest sister introducing me to the "Super Mario" games and many others on the SNES when I was 5 years old or so. From those years onward my family typically bought Nintendo systems because of their affordability and familiarity. Nintendo and their IPs will always have a soft spot in my heart. When I got older, of course, I got into shooter games like "Halo," "Call of Duty," and "Overwatch." Interestingly, as I've gotten further into my 20s, my tolerance for those games has decreased significantly. Now, I enjoy games that engage my brain with critical thinking and analytical gameplay. As an adult, I enjoy learning and looking into the gaming industry, the corporate side, and the independent developer side.
Music has been a major part of my life since I could hear my mom sing. This passion took longer to bloom than the others, however, it was heavily invested in. I picked up a trumpet in junior high, and once I started to learn, it became my first real extension of my creativity. I played in nearly every group I could and by the end of high school, I was in all the top bands in my school. Additionally, my parents introduced me to music including beautiful melodies and harmonies, ranging from classical, musicals, country, classic rock, and more. My tastes have evolved since then into more Instrumental genres such as progressive metal, house, EDM, jazz, and more. Music has always had its way of finding the right emotion I needed to feel and helping me resolve it.
Alright, it's time to choose. Considering everything I've written here, there's one obvious choice for the theme of this blog. I've decided that my theme will be blue, water, and tranquility. I believe it will help capture my continued adaptation and journey through life, and it's also my favorite color! I want to share positive energy, peace, and progress in my work. I hope you enjoy the theme and understand why I chose it, thanks!
I'll see you all in the next one!

Hi Jon! Wow the artistic mind is amazing to me! Your enthusiasm for the arts is palpable and that is really cool! I have never considered myself artistic at all.... not at all.... so I truly appreciate when someone has artistic ability! Your blog theme choice seems perfect for you as well. I think most of us have some anxiety about blogging since it's something we have never done before but I am hopeful as well that we'll be awesome at it once this course is over! Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, I have some ideas for you to expand your art passion into more of a viable business for you since I have some experience in the field of streaming. Depending on your skill and styles it could expand much farther then just logo's and overlays, but that might also be your style.
